TRAINED NURSES SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Wellington Trained Nurses' Association was held at the Y.W.C.A. rooms, Fowlds's Building, lest ovoniog. Miss V.'Leaji presiding. Tho annual report, read by the secretary, Miss Dunlop, stated that the membership stood at 190, fivo being medical momberj, two lay members, thrco niassensis. thirty-seven niidwii'ery nurses, and lh« others general nurses. An effort had been made during tho year to start a crick fund for nurses, but thoro was yet a goad deal to be accomplished in this direction. It was decided bv the council that unless ISA mrrees would support the fund no definite actio* could bo taken. The council also appronched the Hospital and Charitable- Aid Board with the object of having special terms grsntcd to sick nurses while under treatment in tho hospital. Tho Hospital Board could not se-ri its way to grant special tcTms indiscriminately, bnt was willing to consider tho council's request when the necessity arose. Since then the board had cancelled the wholo acce-unt of one of the nick members of the osMciation. The relations between ilto Hospital Board and the council had been most friendly, and a Mieque for £33 13s. (handed over to tho hospital as flit result of the recent enle held «t tho association's rooms) waa Bubsta.nti.il evidence of such being the caso. The- most important business of tho year had been that in conntction with the building- ncheme of tho new NurMs' Jlrsidlcntial Club—the scheme of tho president. Dr. Young. Over-JSCOO worth of debentures had already been taken up, tho cite purchased, and Messrs. Ponty and FotU woto to bo entrusted with tho arehitectnTnl work. Steps had been taken, in consequence of operations, to have tho association incorporated. During the year tho resignations had been accepted, with rcgTet, of Mrs. Holgate, Mrs. Crawford, and Mrs. Newman. Mrs. Stephens had boon elected in Mrs. Crawford's place. Thanks were duo to Dr. Young for his efforts in connection with tho now homo, to Mra . Thompson (lato treasurer), to Messrs. Meok and Von llaast, legal advisers, and to Mr. Tripo for selling debentures. Tho balance-sheet showed a balance in hand of 17s. lid., and liabilities (owing to the purchaso of lio now property) of .£IOOO.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
Miss Ml/an, in a brief speech, touched upon several matters of interest. She stated that had those present bco nat theconference of tho Hospital and Charitablo Aid Boards they would havo been impressed by tho largo share which they were called upon to lake iD tho prevention and caro of disease, and would have besu proud to realise their importance- in Uio Tarious schemtes brought iorward. It was understood from headquarters that they weTo to become a band of Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Guild, and she hoped shortly to publish the regulations, and that tho Nursing Reserve would bo enrolled in tho near future. The thanks of the association were due to Hiss Dunlop for her work as sccrctnrv. The members of tho council appointed tor tho year are-:--President, Di. Young, vioc-prosidents, ML<?s M'Lean and Mrs. Gibbs; treasurer, Mrs. MDonald; secrotaTy, Miss Dimlop; medical members, Drs. Ewart, Herbert, M'Gavin, Tolhurst; general council, Mrs. Thompson, Miss A. M'Lean, Miss Kohns, '.Miss Payne, Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Stephens, Mrs. Picken, Miss Broadtent; lay members, Mrs. Young and Coates.
