MOTOR RELIABILITY.

The New Zealand Motor Cycle Club's schedule time reliability trial from Wellington to Palmorston North and back took placo on Monday, October 23, fourteen riders starting in the competition— six light-weights and eight heavy-weights. Tho former were dispatched from the General Post Ollice at 5.30 a.m., and the latter at C.30. Mr. E. W. Daniel acted as starter. On account of rain on Sunclay night the roads were somewhat heavy l'rom Paekakariki to PalmGrston on the up journey, but tlie conditions improved later in the day, and most of the competitors made excellent runs. Controls were established at tho top of the Paekakariki hill, Otaki, Shannon, and Palmorston. Tho control at tho last-named place was worked by officials from tho M.inawatu Motor Cyclo Club, and all tho others by members of the local club. Considerable interest was evinced in the competition in the townships along tho rotile. The iirst of the heavy machines reached Wellington at 5.40 p.m., and tho first light-weight at 7.59. The competition was in no sense a race, forany competitor reaching a control station early was ponalised to tho extent of two marks per minute. Tho judges were Messrs. E. W. baniel and P. J. Macdonald. Tho results were as follow: — • Light-woighte.—Georgo Banks, gold medal; L. H. Barber, gold medal; P. E. liowder, gold medal; N. Irvino, gold medal; W. 11. Nimmo, certificate. Heavy-weights.—R. S. Beuder, gold modal; H. Gastein. gold medal; V. Sutherland, gold medal; IT. Townsend, gold medal; J. Boucher, sliver medal; A. D. Collins, gold medal; E. S. Bender, certificate. As a result of this race, Messrs. G. Banks, R. S. Bender, IT. Townsend, and A. B. Collins have tied for the Atkins Cup. To decide who shall he the holder another run will tako placo next Saturday, tho course being from Wellington to Otala and back.
