THE CATTLE CLASSES. A better displav of ;tock is seldom seen than that exhibited annually at tho Hawera Show. With the immense dairying district surrounding Hawera, the entries in cattle are always iarge, and to sec a show of from 250 to 300 beasts is worth while making a journey to see. lhe--classes this year promise to be again well contested. The prize money is good in all classes, and for dairy stock .stiil further encouragement has this year, been olfered for the better equalities of good dairv cows. . Amongst numerous special prize? is the solid silver challengo cup presented by the New Zealand Shipping Company. Ihis cup will go to the exhibitor scoring tiio greatest number of points in the purebred llolstcin, Jersev, and Ayreshire classcs, to bo won twice in succession before becoming tho property of the exhibitor. Th Q champion butter-fat Competition will be of great interest again this j.:ar, and excellent paddock accommodation will be provided for exhibitors. A new' pla— inaugurated this year will be that of <.ho best- cow tor cheese-making with casein test combined. A similar competition held in Taranaki resulted in f.-.vour of the Jersey, and the result of the llawera competition will be awaited with 'unrest. Hoth these competitions will bo under the supervision of tho Dairy *~ommissioncr's staff. A milk-testing competition, Open to fanners' sons and daughters, public, and high school studeius, is of crtuiational value, and good entries are again anticipated, intending exhibitor? are reminded that entries close on October 28.
