The paper "Sportsman" states that ' Ernest Barry's supporter has increased the offer of expenses to K. Arnst (the , sculling champion) to ,CSOO in connection with the proposed match between Barry aad Arnst on the Thames.
Barry's supporter originally offered a stako of iCIOO and expenses of .£250, the latter figure being subsequently increased to ,£SOO. Arnst at first demanded JcTM for his expenses, but in an interview on September 21 declared that he was now engaged in a lucrative business, and would not go for less than ,£IOOO.
