Laws were olected tho remaining members of the senior championship ground eomf mittce. Mr. Coato was appointed a member of I the third class championship ground committee. ■ Practice wickets at the Basin Reserve i were allotted to the Telephone Exchange am! Harbour Club*, at a feo of three j guineas. Tho Hawfcc's Bay Cricket Association wrote to tho effect that they would ho Rending a team to Wellington early in the season, but no deiinito date had .yet been fixed. Tho names of K. Demuth., L. Ryan, j D. McCarthy, and Tarrant were forwarded by Bro. Frederick as the four ; boys selected from the Marist Bros. School to bo coached by tho association's coach. J. Blenkinsop has been nominated from | the Templars' Club for coaching. It was decided to invito all lite clubs to send in nominations for coaching 011 the same conditions as last year. The ground committee was instructed to mako arrangements for painting the boundary posts for wickets on the Basin Reserve. Wanted, a Reduction. A letter was received from the Hutc • District Cricket Club asking if the committee could see its way to reduce the club's subscription to live guineas. Owing to compuUory military training and other causes, the club membership has fallen from forty to about twentyfive, and it was staled that with this > reduced membership that it was impossible to pay such a high subscription as ten guineas.—Members of the committee were all of opinion that the request could not be entertained. On the motion ' of .MlO chairman, it was decided that the letter be received, ami that tho Hntt Club be notified that the request could not be entertained.
Rather Petty. Mr. Hickey asked if the association 1 was receiving any fees on account of tho association's ccuc.li giving cricket lessons to the members of a theatrical company at present in the. city-. Tho chairman replied that he was not Aware that Air. Saunders had been coaching members of t'h? company referred to. Mr. Hickev remarked that it was a fact. After some little discussion. the secretary was instructed to make, inquiries through the ground committee in regard to the matter, and to ask for a \ written renlv. ' .Mr. Burbidgp proposed that a boy should be engaged to look after the three score boards at the Basin Reservo oach Saturday. If the association would authorise the expenditure., he could secure a boy for sixpence a week.—lt was decided that 3fr. Burbidge could command the association's funds to the extent of Is. a week. Press Reports. Jtr. Burbidge also proposed that the. association should supply the papers with the results of matches so that they could lie posted up and so create public interest in the sport. The chairman remarked that it was the •' fluty of the reporters to sec that these results wore posted up. If the association was <roing to "spoon-feed the Press Association" and the reporters it should have started years ago. It was not the duty of the association to go "chasing reporters." If thev would take an interest in their work this would be done, and they would get better reports of (he matches. Their experience in regard to rricket reporting had been that tho papers had done very little to promote tlio sport of cricket. Last year they had ' shocking" reports.
Mr. Hickey: Kell, they said you were Luckio-always Luckie.
The chairman: A'o, X was not referring to the "wretchcd past." I was referring to the future. Mr. -Burbidge--thought-that it was- as much tho duty of the association to look after this matter as it was the duty of the reporters. Mr. M'Kenzic agreed with this view. The chairman said that results had been posted up last season. He could not understand why it had not been done last Saturday,. Mr. Hickey: Perhaps the races upset I thorn, The chairman: If they don't do it, I'll go round and see the editors myself. Eventually it was decided that the secretary be instructed to approach one of the papers in tho matter.
