MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CIVIL CASES. (Before Dr. A. M'Artlmr, S.il.) A NON-SUIT POINT. Waller Maddison, carpenter, Wellington, proceeded against Jas. Barras, Ivor Hazel, and Goo. \V. Booth, representing the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters' and Joiners' Industrial Union of Workers, jointly and severally, to recover the sum of XO Cs. alleged to be due as wages, travelling expenses, etc., incurred win's acting as agent for the union. Plaintiff conducted his own case, and Mr. A. Hindmarsh appeared for the defendants, Barras, Hazel, and Booth. Plaintiff Maddison addressed the Court for over an hour. Mr. Hindmarsh then asked for a non-suit. His grounds v.'ere that the defendants were not employers, they being servants like plaintiff. It was further contended that tho responsible party in this matter was the central branch of the Society of Carpenters and joiners and not the defendants. A rule embodied in the by-law of the society provided for appeal to this soeietj' in matters of dispute. Plaintiff was non-suited with costs.THE INSURANCE CASE. Dr. M'Arthur. S.M.. refused to grant permission for a new trial in the case the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Company, Ltd., v. Claxton. .Mr. Dalziel appeared for the Assurance Company, and Air. E. J. Fit/gibbon for Claxton. FOIt CHAH'S SOLD. In tile' case, Alfred Edward Ivin v. John Twomev, a claim for .£3 17s. Cd. for four chairs" sold and delivered, judgment was given for plaintiff for 17s. (itl., with costs. Air. T. 11. Jfolmden appeared for plaintilt, and Jlr. P. E. Evans lor defendant. INDEBTEDNESS. J UDGMENT SUMMONSES. In the case of David M'Crae v. Charles Wethcrall, claim for £37 75., defendant was ordered to pay the amount on or before November 7, 1911, in default one mouth's imprisonment. ill the ease of J. V. Dykes v. Hill and Hons, defendant Thomas Hill was ordered •to pay tho amount of <£1 Us. on or before November 7, 1911, in default seven days' imprisonment. POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) Jessie M'Ewan appeared to answer a charge of being an incorrigible rogue, and also with having insufficient means of support. His Worship ordered accused to come up for sentence if called on. She ■was also made tho subject of a prohibition order. Elizabeth Buckmaster, alias Sylvester, was charged with insobriety, and also with being an idlo and disorderly person. On the first charge, she was convicted and discharged. She was remanded for sentence until to-morrow ou the second. Jean Maitland Harrop was sent to the Pakatoa Inebriate Institution for one year. Gustav Hirschberg ' and Angus M'Donald were each fined 10s. in default 48 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness. The former was also made tho subject of a prohibition order. John David Speight was sent to prison for one month for insobriety, and for a similar offence a first' offender was convicted and discharged.
