$ ' A CHILD'S DEATH,
At about twenty minutes to eight yesterday morning tho four-year-old litllo girl of Anthony Martin hhaab, residing at No. 1 Railway Cottages, Thorndon, died in it's mother's arms. Dr. IL'Arthur, district coroner, held an. inquest yesterday afternoon at which tno mother, Sarah Shaab, stated that tho child had an attack of measles about! four months ago nnd had been attended, by Dr. Jlogg. Subsequently slm developed croup, but bccamo quite well again. On Saturday the little girl showed symptoms of having a cold, and on Sunday this again developed into croup. llcr mother was up willi her all Monday night' and towards morning the deceased child appeared to be belter. At; the lime stated above, however, death took place. Dr. Holmes was called in and tried for over half an hour to resuscitate it, but without effect, and ho could only proiiowic* life extinct. A verdict of death from croup was returned. TRAMCAR. V. EXPRESS. Shortly after 7 o'clock last evening, a collision' occurred between a city-bound Karori tramcar nnd an express, just above the Hotanieal Gardens terminus in Tin.ikori Road. The express was smashed to pieces, and the driver, T. H. Cole, a married man, residing at Karori, sustained n broken arm and other injuries. Ho was admitted to the hospital.
