Tho candidate slated in the course of his remarks that thu present Government had to go, bo- , cause of its inefficiency, because, of the waste that was going on in tho public 6ervice, and because of tho stagnation which was checking tiio progress of tho country, nnd 'Wellington-• in particular, due to the administration of affairs having run too long in a groove, instead of being stirred up by progressive ideas to fit tUo change of timos. On top of this was its inability to satisfy its own servants engaged in many. of tho big public services. He took objection to tho Government stating that if the Opposi- | tion was returned to power many of the legislative, measures passed would bo . rescinded. What they would do would bo to improve tho work of administering those Acts, many of which had the full approval and in some cases , originated with the Opposition. Hβ urged that tho Government should stand or fall by its policy, which it had refused to do, sacrificing policy and principles in its anxiety to cling to office. He could give instances of Gorernment favour and tho reverse, and quoted tho resolution of, Mr. It. A. Wright, M.P., respecting Government advertising, in which tho principle was advocated that tho taxpayers' money for advertising should be spent in those avenues which wonld give the best return. That principlo was negatived by Government members. The speaker also ■ referred to tho sizo of tho leans for public works in election year compared with the samo in other years. On the motion of Jlr. Larkin, seconded by Mr. Wall*, Mr. Bell was given a Wto of thanks ami confidence. lie will address tho electors at Torirua this evening. Mr. J. W. will address Hutt electors at St. James' Hall, Lower Hutt, at 8 o'clock this evening. Dr. A. K. Newman, Jieform candidate for the Wellington East scat, will address electors at 8 o'clock to-morrow evening in tho Bowling Club Pavilion, Hataitivi. Mr. F. G. Bollon. Government candidate for Wellington East, will address tho E-oscneath portion of the electorate at the Schoolroom, Eoscneath, at 8 o'clock to-night. Jlr. C. A. W. Monckton, Reform, candidate for the Otaki electorate, will deliver an address at Mauakau at 8 o'clock this evening. Mr. John Brodie, Independent Liberal candidiito for Wellington East, will address tho electors of Roseneatli in the Schoolroom at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25. Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald, Liberal candidate for the Wellington Suburbs and Country electorate, will address tlio electors of Ngohauranga (the hall) this evening at " 8 o'clock. Mr. E. J. Carey, Labour candidate for Wellington North, will address tho elec- •' tors at 8 o'clock this evening in tho Boulcott Streot Hall.
