(Before Mr. W. G. Riddcll, S.M.) TWO DAYS OUT OF GAOL. Jolin James Walsh, who was sentenced last month to 21 days' imprisonment for theft, mid who had only been discharged from gaol two days rto, was arraigned again on a similar charge on Saturday morning. This time, however, lie was charged with stealing two pairs of trousers, valued at one guinea, the property of Leonard Jackson. Accused stated that ho was "muddled with drink" at the time, and had no recollection of the offence. Walsh asked to bo made tho subject of a prohibition order and "given a chance." His Worship took a lenient view of the matter, granted the request for a prohibition order, and fined accused '10s., in default 14 days' detention. ALLEGED ASSAULT. Roderick Jlnnro was charged that on October 19, at Wellington, he did unlawfully assault Minnie O'Connor so as to cause actual bodily harm. Owing to illness of complainant, SubInspector Sheelian asked for a remand until October 25. OTHER CASES.' For a breach of a prohibition order, Roderick Jlathieson was fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment. A young man named Alfred Dryden, who was arrested on arrival of the south boat on Saturday morning, appeared to J answer a charge of failing to provide for _ his unborn illegitimate child. Accused was remandyl to Christchurch, bail being allowed in one surety of .£3O, or two of .£25 each.. Three first offending inebriates were convicted and discharged, and a fourth for a similar offence forfeited the amount of his bail. For obstructing Constable Cox whilst in the execution of his duty, Thomas O'Gorman, who pleaded guilty, was mulcted in a penalty of 405., in default seven days' detention.
