e ANNUAL REUNION OP THE "FIRSTS." The annual reunion of tho First New Zealand Mounted l!iilas (South Africa) was hold at Godber's last evening, and was attended by tarty members. Colonel A. W. Robin, C.8., president of tho Regimental Association, was in the chair. Tho gathering was a most enjoyable one. The eleventh annual report, read by Mr. C. L. Jewell, congratulated members on tho continued existence, vitality, and "spl-tmlid solvency" of the First New Zealand Mounted Rifles Association. It was with genuine regret th.it thoro waa recorded during the year the death of Wm. Grant, tiongratnlations were heartily tendered to Major J. G. Ilughes, 8.5.0., and Captain R. S. Matthews on their return to New Zealand from England, and on their appointment to tho New Zealand Staff Corps; al.vi to "Harry" Wliyte, who joined the "First" from a collego corp.?, as a private, and in Africa won his D.&.0., and was now holding an important position on tho New Zealand Stair Corps. "We are proud, and pleased that the qualifications of men who served ill tho ranks of the- ' First' have been recocniscd—Cardah, troop sergeant, now has liis commission en the New Zealand Staff, whilo Woods (saddler to tho 'First'), also has his commission. Morrison, also, who had a distinguished career as an officer in Africa and Intel' commanded tho Hawcra Mounted Eifles." The report was adopted. Hushes, D.5.0., Lieutcnant-Colonol D'Arcy Chaytor, Surgeon-Lieutenant Colonel Burns, Major E. Biirtlett, D.5.0., Major G. V. Johnston, R.G.A.. Major 11. I). 0. Ward, 11.A., Captain M. K. Lindsay (Seventh Dragoon Guards), Captain Canavan, Capbin K. S. Matthews, Captain C. P. Rogers; hon, secretary and treasurer and editor of tho regimental "Bulletin," Mr. C. L. Jewell (permanently appointed). Toasts, speeches, musical items, and reminiscences filled in tho remainder of a very jolly evening.
