(From Our Special Correspondent.) . 4 TETONE HIGH SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Tetone District High Rclinol Committee was he'd ; last evening. There wc-to present:— Messrs. D. itf'Kenzio (chairman), Abrahall, Jledhurst, Hill, Kirk, Cox, and Thornton. llr. J. Donaldson wrote drawing atteni ion to the action of the responsible authorities in making it compulsory for pupils going up for matriculation to put m four years at a secondary school. Ho pointed out that the injustice of such a regulation would be apparent in an industrial community like l'etone, where lew, if any, would be able to comply with the conditions. It simply meant that the children of (ho working cla.ssoo would lie debarred from the universities. Ho did not see why any restriction should exist, and considered' that as lonj as a pupil was qualified lie should bo given every facility to sit. for his examination as early as he cared to go up for it. The writer suggested that tho committee should bring (he matter under the notice of tho Minister for Education. The chairman thought that Mr. Donaldson was in error in asserting that tho four years was compulsory. A clever ':py or girl might get through in two or three .years. Mr. Abraiiall thought that it was compulsory now that a boy or girl should put in tour years at a secondary school bet ore sitting for tiio matriculation examination. There being some doubt in tho minds ot (tie committee as to whether tho four years' term was compulsory or not it was lwolved that; the matter be referred to tho headmaster for a report. The headmaster's ordinary report stated that the number an the roll at the beginning of (ho month was 7,11; admitted during the month, 25 withdrawn, 17.
