Oablo advice was received by the local agents of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company to the effect that tho liner lonic arrived at nobart at 9 o'clock yesterday morning. The vessel is due at Wellington on Tuesday next. ECHO ARRIVES. At 4.30 yesterday afternoon the auxiliary schooner Echo arrived from Lyttclton. The vessel left the southern port at 7 a.m. on Monday last, and' experienced a light southerly wind until off Kaikoura, when a N.W. gale sprang up. At 2 a.m. yesterday tho Echo ran into a heavy S.W. gale, with a big sea. Although the vessel rode right through both gales no damage of any description was done. After completion of discharge here, the vessel will probably load rattle for Grcymouth. WEATHER ON WEST COAST. The weather has improved considerably at AVestport and Grcymouth. The Arahura was able to lcavo Westport at 9 o'clock yesterday morning for Nolson and Wellington. She is due here early this morning. In consequence of her late arrival at this port, departure of the vosscl for Nelson aud West Coast to-mor-row has been postponed until 4 p.m. The Mapourika arrived at Westport yesterday morning, and left later on for Grcymouth. at which part she was expected to arrivo at 8 o'clock last night. The sea on the Grcymouth bar is moderating, and boats outside tho bar probably worked the port last night. ROCKS IN AUCKLAND HARBOUR, With reference to notice to mariners No. 118 of 1911, the Auckland Harbour Board have notified the Marine Department that sweeping operations in thin portion of the harbour arc now complete, and further notifies as follows:— A rock off the N.W. end of Motuihi Island, with 23 fathoms at L.W.S.T., lias been recently discovered by the sweeping operations conducted there. South extreme Motu Tapn bearing S. 79ideg. \y. mag.; west extreme Brown's Island bearing S. 30$deg. W. mag. Variation used, 15deg. B. The rock marked No. 1 in notice to mariners No. 118 of 1911 has, after further and closer survey, been found to have only 2} fathoms over it instead of 31 fathoms. Rock No 2 has 3j fathoms over it instead of 33. The bottom between rock No. 3 and the Rangitoto shore to tho N.W. is broken and rocky, having only 23 fathoms in different places between the fivo and threo fathoms lines. Rock 3 Nos. 4 and 5 have only 3 of a fathom over them respectively instead of 2 fathoms and 13 fathoms. Charts, etc., affected :-Admiralty Chart No. 1896 ;■> "New Zealand. CAPE COESO ARRIVES. The steamer Capo Corso, of tho Lylc Steamship Company, of Glasgow, and at present under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from Montreal, via Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland, at 6 p.m. yesterday. Tho Capo Corso left Montreal on August .1 and arrived at St. Vincent on August 14, where the vessel coaled, and resumed her voyage tho Eamo day. After leaving St. Vincent tho ship encountered a succession of strong westerly and south-westerly gales, accompanied by violent hailstorms. Large quantities of water broke on board fore and aft. the ship rolling and labouring heavily. Melbourne was reached on September 26, and after discharging cargo she proceeded to Sydney, where further cargo was discharged. Captain Colin M'Lcod, who is still in command, has tne following officers associated with him:—Chief, Mr. J. Hogg; cecond. Mr. E. Davis; third. Mr. E. J. Thomas. Mr. P. Martin is chief engineer, Mr. R. M'Call second, Mr. R. Geddes third, and Mr. T. Heggic fourth.
From Wellington tho vessel proceeds to Lyttelton and Diinedin on .Saturday. On completion of discharge at Dunedin her present charter expire?, and the then proceeds to Australia to load for London. A remarkable steaming feat, was performed by the Cape Coi'eo flvo years ago. The vessel left London on June 2, 1906, for Port Chalmers direct, and arrived at that port oil the- morning of July 27, after a. nonstop run of 53 days 21 hours. The long voyage of 12,965 miles was ma.de without a stop for coal supplies, the endues working continuously from the time rho cleared London till anchor was dropped at Port ChnJmers. Throughout this steaming feat, the average speed maintained was 10.2 knots au hour.
Captain Drewctto, who has been on holiday leave, was a passenger by the Taraworn, for Auckland yesterday. On his arrival at Auckland the Captain will take command of his steamer, tho Koromilto which arrived at that port yesterday. The western side of the No. 7 wharf at Lyttelton ha,ving been completed, n. start was made on Monday to demolish tho eastern portion. Tho new structure has been built several foot to the westward, which will allow more spaco between No. 6 and 7 wharves, thus offering better facilities for tho berthing of Homo liners. Mr. F. G. Jaunay, second officer of the Mararoa, Finned off the vessel at Wellington yesterday, and signed on the Msiitai as second, iu place of Mr. C. Hohcrtson, who came arhorc. Mr. D. Gillies, late chief engineer of the Maitai. has been appointed acting-superin-tending engineer at Wellington, in place of the late Mr. M'Murrieh. Mr. T. 11. Whangape and Rakanoa, coal boats, loft Westport yesterday with cargoes of coal for Auckland. On Saturday the Waitomata is to leave Westport with a load of coal for Oamaru. Pnkalii, coal-laden, is to lcavo Westport for Lyttelton to-day. ' The coastal steamer Aorcre left port for Patca shortly after .nine o'clock yesterday morning, but put back somo time later owing to stress of weather. The sea at the entrance was very heavy all day, but last night it had Bono down somewhat. There was still a fresh breeze blowing last night. Captain Watson, of the Merchant Scrrico . Guild, left Duncdin yesterday morning for Wellington.
