A return was laid on the table of the House of Representatives yesterday showing the firms or individuals who act for the Advances Department and the amount's received each year since ISCG by them for tho preparation of mortgages or other work connected with the Department. The principal amounts last year were as follow:—field, Luckie, and Toogood (Wellington), ,£lG:'; Napier and Smith (Auckland), ,£155 j W. 31. Jackson (Waihi), .£129; Barricoat and Treadwell (Wanganui), JIIOB. There are in all 41 firms mentioned. Maidstono Park is a pleasant resort for holiday makers, and doubtless numbers of Siople will visit this reserve on Labour ay. Particulars as to train service, etc., arc advertised in tho amusement, columns of this issue, and to this pleasure seekers are referred. School committees, trado societies, and other organised institutions desirous of engaging tho park on days other than holidays may do so on application to the Kail way Department at Wellington. There will bo music to-night and on Saturday night at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts exhibition. Mr. W. Galloway, of Pahautanui, who is seeking re-election as a member of tho Hutt County Council, has during his six years' councillorship proved himself a man of ability and worth. The manner in which ho has looked after the county's welfare and tho Horokiwi Riding's iui'crrst in particular should facilitate his return. At the recent conference of county delegates held in Wellington 31v. Galloway represented ths Hutt County. Ho is also a member of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, a position for which lie will again be a enndidalo.
