ASTRONOMICAL LECTURE.

Mr. J. T. Ward, Iron, director of tho Wonßanui Observatory, nave a lecture at tho Concert Chamber of tlio Town Hall lost night, lu spite of. the unpleasant weather, llio.ro was a fair attendance, and tlio lecturer received an attentive hearing. His subject was "Evenings with the Telescope," which was illustrated by lantern slides. Mr. Ward Rave kmiio interesting hints on tho use of tho telescop?, and afterwards spoko of doublo stars a subject of which ho has made a special study. Tho lantern slides included some capital photographs of tho moon's surface. Tlio proceeds of the lecture are to Iks devoted to the fund for housing tho tclcscopo recently acquired by tho Astronomical Section of the Wellington Philosophical Society. Mr. Ward kindly camo down from Wanganui to lecture at t'ho -request of tho society.
