STATE NOTION'S AND TUB CITT. Tho Government's water-power proposals, as far as they concern Wellington, were referred to at tho meeting of tho City Council last night. Tho Mayor said that ho had not mado any public pronouncement on tho matter at nil. lM'oro ho could put nny proposals before Iho city he would havo to got a great many details worked out. Allowance would liavo to be mado for tho capital charges And running costs of a converter station and a sinking fund sufficient to extinguish (he capital of Iho power and lighting station. Allowance would ateo hare to bo mode for increased capital charges which would havo to bo mado duo to expenditure on new machinery and extensions of the distributing mains; also the cost for altering tho supply of current from the Government direct on tho mains from Iho transformers. Sinking funds on converter station, power station, lighting elation, and distributing system would have to bo arranged lor; also depreciation on the converter station and distributing system. As for the scheme, he believed that Wellington presented advantages over other cities, but unless Wellington could pet current at a price whieih would allow (hem to scrap their whole concern, moot other matters, nml at tho same time roduco the price, tho council would not consider it. (Hear, hear.) Ho had u comprchensivo report on tho subject Iroin Mr. Richardson, but did not propose to allow it to bo mndo publio yot: it hud not l-vn before- tho comiuitlco.
