A NEW ULTIMATUM. PAINFUL CHOICE OFFERED TURKEY. ATTITUDE OF THE PORTE. By Tclccraph-Pross Assoriation—Oopyricht (l!oc. s October 20, 0.5 a.m.) Vienna, October 19. It is reported that when, Tripoli and Cyrenaica have been occupied, Italy in November will send an ultimatum to the Porte, asking; it to accept tho situation ami offering financial compensation. If this is rejected some Turkish islands in tho Aegean Sea will bo 6eized, Smyrna will bo blockaded, and compensation will not only bo withheld, but a war indemnity will bo demanded.
THE PORTE'S POLICY. STATEMENT BY TEE GKAND YIZIEE. CRec October 19, 10.30 p.m.) Constantinople, Oobober 19. The Grand Vizier, speaking in tho Chamber of Deputies, declared that tho Government's policy was ono of peace and mutual confidence. As far as tho Balkans wero concerned, the Government was determined to seek alliances in order to safeguard tho interests of tho Empire* and meanwhile in tho Tripolitan question would endeavour to secure a solution most favourablo to tho national interrists and dignity.
The Tripolitan indictment charges tho late Cabinet of Hakki Pasha with seriously weakening tho defences of Tripoli, and also with allowing two hundred starving peoplo to migrate to Tunis through tho absence of relief measures.
The newspaper "Jouno Turo" expresses the hope that Turkey will succeed Italy as a brilliant third in the Triple Alliance. Several attempts having boon made to .secure the escape of tho es-Snlfcan Abdul llamid, a closer watch is "being kept on. him. AID FOR TURKEY. EGYPTIAN VOLUNTEERS SET OUT. (Rec. Tho "Daily Chronicle's" Constantinople- correspondent reports that four thousand volunteers in Egypt are marching towards Benghazi in Tripoli under trained officers. Egyptian sympathisers are supplying them with, food and munition. THE TURKISH FLEET, OUT FOR GUN PRACTICE. London, October 18. A Renter's message states that tho Turkish fleet is proceeding to tho Sea of Marmora for gun practice. TORPEDO BOATS ORDERED. (Rec. October 19, 10.30 p.m.) Rome, October 19. The Government Ims ordered forty torpedo boats from private firms. TAX ON ITALIAN GOODS. Constantinople, October 18. A decree has been issued, imposing 10 per cent ad valorem on Italian merchandise.
