INDUSTRIAL ARBITRATION.

» THE NEW FEDERAL BILL. By TeleErapli—£rnss Assaciation-CoDrrient Melbourne, October 19. Mr. Fisher, the Prime Minister, discussing in the Houso Mr. Dentin's amendment to the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill, asked if tho Opposition objected bo all the powers in the Constitution being vested in a Court that could prevent strikes. Surely it was tho House's duty to give the Court that power. The amendment meant otherwise. He had been gratified to see how interested parties had chided tho Arbitration Court upon its decisions. Tho Government could not accept the amendment. Mr. Irvino objected to tho Bill trying to make tho Conrt a legislative body instead of a purely judicial one. Tho debate was adjourned. POSTAL SERVANTS' FROTEST. (Roc. October 20, 0.5 a.m.) Melbourne, October 19. A petition signed by four thousand postal servants has been presented to the Federal Houso in opposition to the Government's proposal to bring public servants under the provisions of tho Arbiration Act. It is urged that from time immemorial Parliament has been the final Appeal Court for the servants of tho Crown, and the ntroduction of the Arbitration Court would rob Parliament of its prerogative. Tlie Inter-State Conference of tho pos'al and telegraphic assistants has resolved in favour of a plebiscite on the question of becoming affiliated to tho Political League.
