A Press Association message from London announces the death of Mr. Arthur Seddon, formerly a solicitor in Melbourne. A Dunodin Press Association telegram slates that Mr. Wm, Langlands, of St. Clair, aged S2, is dead. He was tho second secretary of tho Early Settlers' Association, and arrived in Otago by tho ship Victory. Mr. .T. Ilott's many friends will bo pleased to learn that ho is progressing satisfactorily towards recovery from the severe attack of influenza which has laid him up for some weeks past. Mr. A. Cameron, teller of tho Bank of New 7;caland at Cambridge, has been promoted to the managership of tho branch of that bank at Taumarunui. Mr. Paul M. Hansen has been appointed Vice-Consul for Denmark at Auckland in succession to the late Mr. F. Baume. Mr. Alfred Crooke, S.M., has been appointed chairman of tho Licensing Committee for tho districts of Tuumarunui and Taranaki, vice Mr. IT. S. Pitzhorbert, S.M. The latter gentleman is sulfating from ill-health. Constable E. Snow, ef tho Lambton Quay Police Station, has resigned from tho force, and, as a parting memento, his comrades made him a presentation of a travolling bag and rug on Wednesday

Councillor Trevor was granted leave of absenco by the City Council lasi night on account of ill-health. The sympathy of the Mayor and councillors was extended to him. Owing to its being impossible for Mt. Cablo to attend the Tramways Conference, to be hold in Adelaide at the \yoginning of Novomljer, t'he Tramways Committee of the City Council arranged for Mr. Petersen to attond in his etoad. Mr. L. V. Caldwell, for many years acceuntant at the Wanganui Port Office Savings Bank, has received notice of transfer to the head office in Wellington. The Deporting Debate and Printing Committee of the House of Roprceenla.tives yesterday placed on record their appreciation of the services rendered by Sir William Steward as Chairman of the Committee for thirty years. The Labour Bills Committee placed on record its appreciation of the valuable services of Mr. Arnold, its Chairman. The courteous, tactful and capable manner in which ho had discharged his duties had contributed largely to the success of the work of the Committee. Mr. E, S. Ilounthwaitc, lata City Engineer, was appointed consulting engineer to the Onslow Borough Council at last night's meeting of the council.
