TRACK GALLOPS AT TH-ENTHAM. fßr Gt.ENCOE.I Tho conditions were far from pleasant at Trentham in the early morning yesterday, but thoso who journeyed from town'mado light of tho hard, cold northerly, and remained on the tracks whilo the work was in progress. All operations were carried out on tho niicidle of the course proper, which furnished splendid going. Soon after S a.m. .T. W. Lowe stripped Lambton and Ebonite, and tho pair galloped half a mile in 52Jscc. Effort (Simpkins), with a good weight in tho raddle, moved attractively over fivo furlongs, which she got to tho end of in lmin. iUsec. The New Zealand Cup candidates, Mira and Iranui, with light boys, went seven furlongs in lmin. 32scc. There was little to choose between the pair. Ihe brown mare was afterwards given trotting exercise on tho sand. Domino, alone, went about two and a quarter miles at three-quarter pace. Jlirini and Lady Volley were sent out to run fivo furlongs, but the latter bolted before the. start. Her companion waited until she. had completed the circuit, and llirini then won tho gallop easily.
Tho Achilles colt in J. Cress s stable war, much too good for the KilcheranMoreze filly in a brush over four furlongs. The first-nnmed has now grown into a. fine big colt. Gipsy Belle (W. Young) and To Knhurangi '(Traill) ran five, furlongs. lie former tired badly, and To Kahurangi easily beat her. Kina (Young) and Fougasse (Traill) went four furlongs together. The laKer got off best, but Kina held lier at the finish. Tho limo was .Msec. St. Felix and St. Petersburg ran a strong mile, both finishing together. Mcrrivonia (Young) and Lady Kilchoran went six furlongs in lmin. ljisec. Tho former won easily, and could have dona much better. Turna (Traill) went five furlongs alone. Salopian (H. Cokcr) and Westward (J. Pnrramorc) were schooled ovor tho big fences. The former pleased greatly, and Westward also jumped well. Alter breakfast the Vnrirna two-year-olds Styx, Stepney, and Champagne, and tho Endeavour Lodge pair, Maj-siba mid Oblipant. wore given a half-mile flutter I with a barrier start. The last-named won with tho others in a cluster. W Davies's team, which included Khamsin, First Battery, Mouoroso and the Aucklauders Monolino and lurbine, were also exercised. ■\\- O rd of the death of .T. Gordon, tlio apprentice in J. W.
