COMMERCIAL DISPUTES. The New York Chamber of Commerce has matured and adopted a plan for the settlement of commercial disputes, by arbitration, and the committee responsible for the scheme, while acknowledging "the splendid work of the Commercial Courts of Europe," remarks that these "would not serve as models, owing to fundamental differences in laws, customs, and viewpoints." In the New York scheme the parties "agree that a judgment of the Supreme Oourt of the State of New York may be entered in any county in the State upon the award, and they explicitly waive any right to withdraw from or revoke," the submission of a ease after the appointment of arbitrators. The New York "Journal of Commorce" says that the plan is likely to be instrumental in fettling a large number of .disputes. and it considers that there v.*jll be a gTcat advantage to the community in relieving the congestion of the law courts. A great advantage will be the promptitude with which the work will be done. "Arbitrators may be selected who are long familiar with the special and peculiar details of the line of business under consideration, their qualified judgment eliminating the long dircussion and the examination of expert? to explain to judge and jury certain details essential for their understanding in a case at law." Tho advantages of arbitration have long been apparent to commercial men. and it may be opportune to remind the Mancheetex community that our Qiau.bcr of Commerce undertakes the settlement of disputes between parties who are not members of the Chamber, and that "in moit ca-ses involving only one bitting the cost is abuut £7."
