WEST COAST RAILWAY.
(By Telegraph-Prow Association.) Hokitika, October 13. A largely-attended public meeting, convened by the South Wcstland Railway League, was held at Ross to-night, when tlio following resolutions were carried:— "That tin's meeting' desires to respectfully urge upon J.ho Government the necessity of authorising the extension of tho West Coast railway from tho present terminus at Ross to Waitahi, as it is urgently re, quired in the interests of settlement", tho extension of the timber industry, and tho development of the resources of this pari of the Dominion." "That the member tor tho district be requested to strongly re. present to tho Government the immediate necessity that exists to at once tako in hand tho survey aud construction of tho route of the West Coast Southern railway to Okarito, and that tho detailed plans for tho construction of tho lino from Ross to Waitahi bo at onco put in hand." "That the league bo requested to ask the support of tho West Coast aud Canterbury Chambers of Cominerco to urge tho' speedy extension' of tho railway to South Westland, and supply tho necessary data showing tho industrial and commercial benefits to be derived by the Dominion from the construction or' tho line, which will tap timber country aud conduce to increased settlement aud t.ho establishment of lucrative- industries."
