FORECAST AND SUMMARY. ProEent indications axo for westerly winds, strong to heavy gale, and veering to southerly shortly. Colder, cloudy, and unsettled weather, with heavy rain, is probable generally, snow on the higher lovels and hail in narta of the South Island, with rivers flooded on the West Coast. A westerly low pressure area of unusual intensity has enveloped the country, tho barometer recording 28.98 inches at tho Bluif at 3 p.m. to-day. High northerly and westerly winds have prevailed, and rain has fallen in most parte o£ tho country. D. 0. BATES. Meteorological Office, Wellington, October 13, 1911. DISTRICT REPORTS. (From Our Special Correspondents.) Wanganui, October 13.—Stormy weather: heavy showers. Fcilding, October 13—Boisterous weather, with rain during tho morning;' windy night. Otaki, October 13.—Welcome rain fell at Intervals last night and to-day, but it has not been sufficient to be of great benefit. Pastures aro badly in need of copious rains. Carterton, October 13.—After a number of days of fino weather, rain set in today, and, although at tho time of writing it had not been heavy, it will bo sufficient to do a great doal of good. Fcathcrston, Octoher 13—Overcast; light showers at intervals. Oroytown, October 13.—Light rains have fallen during tho last twenty-four hours, but not sufficient to do much good from a farmer's point of view. A heavy rain would bo. appreciated. Masterton, October 13.—Tho Rev. A. Jlodce, reporting at 6 o'clock to-night for the preceding 24 hours, stated:—Temperature, in shade, maximum 62dcg.. minimum 48.8 dcg., mean 55.4deg.; earth radiation, 54.6 deg.; earth temperature (Ift. below surface), 54.6deg.; wind, light breeze, W.; rain one point, which is tho total for the month; weather cloudy and calm. Hastings, October 13.—Heavy rain fell last night, but cleared off by morning. To-day has been dull, but fino. Palmcreton, October 13.—This morning was fine, but several heavy showers fell during tho afternoon. A northerly wind has sprung up.
