INDIGNANT RAILWAY SERVANTS.
A PETITION: HINT OF MOKE DRASTIC STEPS. (By TolccraDh— Press Association.) Christchurch, October 13. Following upon the statement inado in tho House on Thursday by tlio Hon. J. A. Millar to tho eflcct that it was somewhat lato in tho session to sot up a scparato committee to investigate tho claims of the second division of tho railway servico and other potitions regarding railway matters, ono of tho largest mcotings ever held at tho Addington Yards was held to-day. Feeling ran very high on the possibility of tho consideration of tho petition forwarded to Parliament on behalf of tho second division buing postponed till next session, especially as tho petition was sent to tho Houso last session, and was not considered. Tho opportunity of discussing matters dealt with in the petition was not allowed members who wero informed that they would have a.i opportunitv of thoroughly ventilating these matters wben the committee reported to tho Houso on the petition. Tho Minister's statement on Thursday was interpreted by somo of tho speakers os an indication that tho matters dealt with in tho petition aro to bo shelved till next session. Tho following motion was unanimously agreed to: "That this meeting of tho Addington branch of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants views with indignation tho possibility of a postponement until next session of tho second division petition. It considers that the grievances are such as demand immediate consideration and adjustment, and requests tho members for Christchurch and Suburbs te urge immediate consideration of tho samo by tho Parliamentary CornTelegrams were sent to tho Christchurch City and Suburban members urging them tj approach the Minister with tho request that the petition bo considered this session. Some of the speakers dealt with the moderation of tho methods so far adopted bv members of tho second division in their attempts to have their grievances remedied, but added that if appeared that this moderation was interpreted as meaning that they wore not in earnest in regard to tho petition. Thcy hinted that unless redress was forthcoming soon more drastic steps than those hitherto taken would have to bo adopted.
