IN THE FEDERAL SERVICE.

NO SEX BABBLER. In tie Now South Wales House of Re. preservatives in reply to a question concerning women and Iho Federal Service the Minister lor Home Affairs said that 16G Federal Service .examinations had been held during: the last three years. Of these, 32 had been thrown open to women. The number of women who had entered for the examinations was 31%, and 1513 were successful. Six hundred and sixty-one women had been so far appointed., but appointments were still lwing made from tho more recent examinations, tho period of eligibility beiug eighteen months. The salaries of women ranged from a minimum of ,£3!) for telephonists to <£12G for typists and' assistants over 21 years of age. In the clerical division the salaries ranged from a minimum of J.'6o to a maximum of ,£2OO. Tho same rules applied as in the case of men in the promotion of women in tho Federal Service. There was no sex barrier to tho advancement of women occupying positions carrying a salary of .£2OO and over.
