RAILWAY DEPARTMENT'S ATTITUDE. A resolution wan passed at Iho recent conference- of A. and P. Associations urging that n special fast stock train should be provided on the Main Trunk lines once a week (luring the autumn months, and that bettor provision should lie made for show stock, and this resolution was duly forwarded to tho Minister for Railways. The secretary of the conference (Mr. Edwin Hall) has been advised by the .Minister, tliat where ihe amount of stock offering is sufficient, the Department runs special trains at considerable expense to meet tho wishes of consignors, and where the traffic is considerable special arrangements are made to facilitate the haulage 'of wagons of stock on salo days. If, however, the requirements in any particular district necessitate additional trains or faster services, tho question will be considered if definite proposals are made.
