—$ (Br Telecranb.—SDecia! Corresnonaent.t Palmersfon, October 12. ' Tho monthly ■ meeting of the Palmerston Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs. J. G. Wilson J. A. Nash, Harford, Howie, Kendall, Voss, Vincent, Pearce, Captain Hewitt, Captain Haydon, Fowler, F. Mowlcm, Bryan, and Speirs. Dr. Frongtey wrote, stating that it would bo necessary to pass legislation for the purposo of transferring the site for an old people's home, but that there was very little chance of it being introduced this session. On the motion of Mr. Nash, tho matter was left in the hands of tho chairman to endeavour to get the measuro introduced. A resolution of sympathy with tho relatives of the late Mr. A. R. Mayo and the late Mr. .1. A. Skenuan was passed. The chairman (Mr. J. G. Wilson) paid a tribute to Mr. Mayo's active interest in local affairs, and mentioned that Mr. Skermau was one of tho oldest settlers in the district, and a supporter of the hospital. The names of Misses J. G. Burbush and B. AViso were added to the list of applicants for positions as probationers on the nursing staff. The Mayor stated that Mr. C. P. Purton, a local blacksmith, had offered to shoo for twelve months the horse to be used in the dogcart with which it was proposed to provide the nurses.. He moved that a vote of thanks be accorded Mr. Purton. Captain Haydon stated that the question of providing a vehicle should be reconsidered, and, instead of waiting till the estimates came up, thoy should supply a turn-out forthwith. He moved: "'iha the chairman and himself be empowered to purchase the horse, vehicle, and necessary equipment, and hand samo over to the keeping of tho matron." This was seconded by Mr. Nash, and carried. ' Tho tender of Messrs. Sollitt Bras, has been accepted for tho erection of the now premises for the L'nion Bank. The price fins not been disclosed, but is said to tie about .£IOOO. The Terrace End Bowling Club wound up the opening ceremony in connection with its green and tennis courts with a "social" in the upper room of the pavilion last evening. The City Cricket Club held its annual meeting last evening. The balance-sheet and report stated that tho club held a good position both, financially and in membership. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. R. M'Nab; president,' Mr. F. Nathan; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. H. Bennett, T. Childs, J". S. AVatchorn, and S. Greer; captain, Mr. H. C. Hamus; vice-captain, Mr. C. Turner; secretary, Mr. L. Mitchell; treasurer, Mr. AV. Rickard; delegate to association, Mr. C. Turner; committee, Messrs. H. Oakley, L. Martin, and L. Mitchell. A match with the Phoenix Club was arranged for October 18. For being intoxicated on a railway train, Leslie Sykes and "William Hydo were each fined £2 and costs at the Police Court to-day. The alternative in each case was seven days' imprisonment. A tea meeting to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Emanuel Congregational Church Snnday School was held in the Sunday schoolroom last evening, when there was a good attendance. The prizes won during the year were presented bv M.r. T. R. Hodder. Mr. .1. A. M'Crea, of Stoney Creek, has just returned from a visit to Australia. Mr. M'Crea, who is a wellknown breeder of Jersey cattle, dasired to purchase a good bull, but was unable to secure an animal up to the standard which he wanted. Ho attended a couplo of the big shows, but states thcro was nothing to learn there in tho way of management.
