At yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Committee of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, the recommendation of tho House and Finance Committee—that the Gas Company's contract for maintenance bo cancelled in view of the completion of the electrical installation —was adopted. There died at Seaward Bush on Wednesday afternoon (states an Invercargill Press Association telegram) Mr. John Stapleton, who was born in Tipperary in 1811. It was not until 1883 (at the age of 73) that he decided to emigrate, leaving his native land in the sailing ship Trevplean. He landed at Port Chalmers towards tho end of tho year 1883, and arrived iD Southland on New Year's Dav, 18S4. Most of the time sinco then lie spent in the Seaward Bush district. Mr. Stapletou was a very active man in his day, and till a few years ago enjoyed excellent health. Of late his ago weighed on him, and for the last nine months ho was compelled to take to his bed. Mr. Stapleton, whoso wifo predeceased him by forty years, is survived by a son and daughter and 11 grand-children.
