fr MR. HENRY BROADHURST. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright London, October 11. Tho death is announced of Mr. Henrj Broadhurst, On his retirement from public life in 1908 Henry Broadhurst was tho oldest and most honoured representative of Labour io tho House of Commons. Ho was bom iu Oxfordshire scventy-ouo years ago, and becamo a stonemason by trade. In 1875 ho was elected secretary of tho Labour Representation League, and in 1880 he was elected to the House of Commons as member for Sloke-upon-Trcnt. From that time until his retirement in 190G, ho pat continuously as a member of the House of Commons with the exception of an intcrtal of two years from 1892 to 1894. In lfcC he hold office as Tinder-Secretary for fne Home Office in Mr. Gladstones shortlived Ministry of 18SG. Writing iu "M.A.P." at the time of his retirement, Mr. T. P. O'Connor said: "It was characteristic of the force and strength as well os shrewdness of the man that at a timo when the Labour candidate was a much rarer individual than he is to-day, Broadhurst was able to get himself chosen as candidate for ftoko by both the Liberal and the Labour forces. In time he reached the high position of Under-Secretary for Hie Homo Department, and in that office ho did very good work.
