THE WEATHER.
FORECAST AND SUMMARY. Present indications are for rain and cloudy weather generally, with a, further fall in the barometer in moat parts of the country, but a temporary rise is anticipated shortly in the south. High northerly ajid westerly winds will probably predominate, but a change to the southward for a short time may be looked for soon. A westerly storm area has developed, and rain has fallen in many parts of the country. High northerly winds have prevailed, and the barometer Iris fallen everywhere. D. C. BATES. FcUding, October 12.—The anticipated rain did not fall last evening, but it set in late this afternoon. Present appearances are that it will continue ail night Palinerston, October 12,-Tho weather this morning was flue, but during the afternoon several showers fell. Shannon, Octobor 12.—The weather here is dry ajid warm. Many householders arc short of water, and rain is badly waited by farmers. Otaki, October 12.-Dull, light showers at intervals. Jfcjsterton, October 12.—The Rev. A. Hodge reporting at 6 o'clock to-night for the previous twenty-four 'hours-6kUed'M-follows: -temperature "in"'the shade: Maximum 66.4dcg., minimum M.Edcg., mean sS.ldcg.earth radiation, 41de'g.; earth temperature (lft. underneath), 55dcg.; wind, light N.W.; weather, overcast; just a sprinklo of rain; cooler. .Oreytown, October 12.—The weather continues fine, but rain is now wanted Hastings, Octobor 12— To-day has ' been dull, and, about A p.m., heavy rain commenced to fall. A prolonged downpour is needed.
