(From Our Special Correspondent.) — -9 ' HERETAUNGA BOATINCi CLUB. The fifth annual meeting of the Heretaunga Boating Club, held this week disclosed tho fact that tho club's assets are considerable, tho total being .£152 10s. s?>d., whilo I lie . liabilities amount to Ji'J Ss. In moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, Mr. D. Keir, commodore of Iho club, gave a.' rcsumo of the past year's work, which showed that there wero'l7 senior, (i junior, and 7 lady member?, whilst the present season' opened with a membership of 62, being an increase of 2 over tho previous year. Seventeen races wcro held during the year, tho contests being keen. The smoke concert held in November last, was a success, although a small financial deficit was' shown. Credit' is due lo tho secretary, Mr. J. A- Macdonald, for his untiring efforts on the club's behalf and especially for the manner in which ho inaugurated the attractions on the Petone foreshore on Now Vcar's Day. A matter of importanco is that tho TLorndon Dinghy Club has decided to hold races for their cliallongo cup at Petone, which should prove a factor in popularising the sport of yachting in l'etone. Unfortunately tho entertainment given by tho Wellington Dramatic ■ Club, nlso the dance, were unfinancial, although the emoko concert in September last was a success in every- way. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Commodore, Mr. D. Keir (fourth term); vice-commodore, Mr. W. J. Taylor; secretary, .T. A. Macdonald; assistant secretary, T. Bird; treasurer, A. Brittle; trustees, U. Jenkins, H. Rowe, and I\ Ryan; committee, 1\ Ryan, .H. Ryan, B" .Tonkins. Whit Taylor, E. Hartley, and 11. liowo; Taylor (senior); hon. handieapper, Mr. E. The eighth annual report of the Petone Ex-Navals' Association to be presented at tho meeting to-night, draws members' attention to the great lack of attention shown in tho affairs of the association. It is suggested that the incoming committee should do something to bring members into line and to foster a-feeling of comradeship which was always present in the old corps. During tho year tho Hunt Cup was won on both occasions by the "old boys." The cutter raco for tho Whito Horse Cup was won by Wellington Old Nava.ls. As it will bo rowed at l'etone this year the committee expects that it will bo kept here. The financial year will close with a credit of .£5. Tho purchase of a cutter life-boat is- being kept steadily in view, and the incoming committee are recommended to push the matter forward. EVENING SPORTS. With a view to commencing tho evening summer sports meetings the Petone Junior Club will hold a general meeting in tho club rooms next I'Yiday.
