MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Miramar Borough Council met last night. There were present: Mr. J. Brodie (Mayor), Councillors Richards, Telford, Stone, and Bowie. A deputation from the Seatoun Athletic Club waited on tho council, and asked that improvements should be made to the park. They asked that the ground should be top-dressed, that water should be laid on, and that a dressingshed should be erected. Tho Mayor said that tho council recognised the need for improving tho park and helping athletics. At the same time the sports bodies should render scn.« small financial assistance. In the ineautime he would ask them to consider if they could make a small contribution. Tiin deputation contended that the borough would benefit, tlirongh its tram service, if athletics wore held on tho park. It was decided to leave the matter to the engineer. A statement of accounts showed that in the half-year ended September 30, JEIOB IBs. had bpen spent on street improvement, ;£SOI3 16s. on water supply, and .£2381 2s. on drainage. In the district fund the receipts from rates were shown as .£1262 lis. ■■id- general, and .£1262 lis. 3d. interest. The Government subsidy was JC3I7 t)s. 2d., and the sale of tramways brought in ,£1052 19s. Among the payments out of the account were: Tree-planting .£236 35., and lighting .£3Ol 18s. 7d. • Tramway returns of the Seatoun and Miramar routes showed that the net less for the last half-year was ,£125 lis. Id. In the corresponding half-year of 1910 tho loss was .£431 5*., and in tho 1909 half-year £21 lis. lOd.
