The police stated that several people had lodged complaints regarding accused, who apparently- went ironi house to house in Petone, and", whenever ho got any money, spent it in drink. Mr. Wilson asked for leniency owing to the man s affliction. Accused was convicted and discharged, on the understanding that he left the district within 48 hours. M'C'arthy was further charged with assaulting a woman, but the informant did not appear, and (ho case was dismissed. At Lower llutt yesterday-, a middle-aged man, named Walter Harris, a barman, was arrested by the local police on a certain charge. He will be brought before the Court at Wellington this morning. The. Jjower Hutt Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club open their season on Saturday. '
