MONTHLY MEETING,
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Palmerston N„ October 10. Tlii> monthly meeting of the Mauawat'u A. nud P. Association was held to-day. the president (Mr. A. C. Conway) occupying the ' chair. 'Ilie Wellington Racing Club notified that its committee had allocated a sum of .£l2 10s. to the association (in accordance with the conditions of llio club classic race) to supplement prizes in events calculated t'o encourago tho breeding of thoroughbreds. Tho .New Zealand Warehousemen's Association forwarded a donation of £•> ss. It. was dccided to purchaso six registering turnstiles in use at the recent Wcllii'gtoiu Exhibition, these to be installed l'j time forUhe forthcoming show. Forty-four now members were elected land two resignations received. Funds Flowing In. Tho announcement that the new secretary (Mr. Penny) had collected .£ll6 worth of advertisements for the catalogue was received with applause. It was also stated, that tho canvassing committee had collected ,£159 15s. Cd. "It has not started yet," added the president. District Members. Tho following recommendation of a. sub' committee appointed to draft conditions of membership for district members (in terms of. a motion moved by Mr. R. S. Abraham), was adopted: "That the General Committee shall have power to elect not more than six special members of the committee from outside districts who di not' reside within a teu-milo radius of I'almerston North, provided that they are duly elected members of the asso- • ciation, these members to enjoy' all the privileges of ordinary members save that their term"of'office shall be-for twelve months only. from date of election, and every special member so .elected l'or tho year 1911-12 to hold office till the next nr'nual Meeting." Use Totalisator Revenue? It was also reported that the Manawatu Association's scheme for securing part of the totalisator revenue, as a subsidy to A. and P. Associations to encourage horsebreeding, had been favourably entertained by a largo number of kindred societies, replies supporting the suggestion having been received from Wyndham, Otago, Gore, Wairarapa, Waikato, Palmerston Srut'h, Central Lake Country, Chovint, Mackenzie' Country, Peninsula, Wanganui, ■Southland, Oxford, To Aroha, .Egmont. Taranaki, Auckland, Hawke's Bay, and Woodville. besides other bodies. Only one association objected on principle and that was Northern Wairoa. The reason for objection was given in the following resolution: "That this association objects to the principle of tho Governn'ent raising revenue by any form of gambling, and therefore regrets that if cannot support the proposal." A deputation is to wait on tho Government on tho matter.
