NOTES AND COMMENTS. (BT GLP.ncor] There will ho racing nt. Dunedin, Napier, aud Blenheim to-tiny. Acceptances for t lir> fi i\st day's events at the Wellington liacing 'Club's meeting close oil Friday. Owners are reminded that acceptances for tho Wavi'i'lf.v-Wailotarii Racing Club's meeting closc on Friday, with Mio secretary at Wavorlp.v. Tho Blenheim trainer, G. 11. Gillet, has Fovea horses in work at present. Ilia team consists of Curator, Glenspring, Alofa, Daunton, Astonishment, Merchantman, and Amberstone. With the exception of tho last-named the. whole team will be saddled lip during the Marlborough meeting which commences to-day. No fewer than "three of t'hem—Glenspring. Curator, and Merchantman—aro entered in the Flying Handicap. Some surprise was expressed when it was found that Rill had not been accepted for at Blenheim. Tho reason is that her owner intends to dispatch her to the Poverty bay meeting, and J. Cam--erqn, who is making the trip with lUmpara ha, will have Kill under his care. Septimus, who was sold during the Otaki meeting, has gone into a Fe.ilding stable. It is the intention of his new owner to try Tho Officer gelding over fences. Immediately after the Blenheim meeting Merchantman will bo taken to the West Coast, and will represent Mr. Jas. Colvin, M.P., at the Greymouth meeting. The Birkenhead gelding still makes a noise, but his trainer holds the opinion that this trouble can be got over -without an operation. In any case such a disability is not likely to seriously' trouble him over a short course, and . against such company as he will encounter on the Coast. Toanga is to compete at the Marlborough meeting to-day and to-morrow, and will then be shipped to the West Coast. The Awapuni-owned horse, Melologue, is also booked to make this trip. In last week's notes in this column a paragraph referring to Formulate mentioned that Mr. G. P. Donnelly hud refused 1500 guineas for the horse. Mr. J. M'Laughlin, private trainer to Mr. Donnelly, points out that this statement is incorrect, as it was Formativo (a halfbrother to Formulate) for whom the offer was made and. refused. Formative nfterivards broke down. Formulate is a maiden performer, and has only started twice, running last in the Hawke's Bay Guineas last week, so that (as Mr. M'LaughliE points out), he is not lightly treated in being handicapped 231b. above the minimum at Trentham. , General entries for the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting close at 9 o'clock on Friday night, with the club's secretary, Mr. J. F. Hartland. Acceptances for the City Handicap are duo at the same time. The biggest stake to be competed for at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meoting today is attached to the Dunedin Stakes, tor two-year-olds, four furlongs. At Caulfield on Saturday next, tho Victorian Amateur Turf Club's meeting commences. The principal events to be dejaded on the opening day are the Caulheld Guineas and the Caulfield Stakes.
_An Auckland writer states that tho Hotchkiss horse Advocate is not to ho taken south for the New Zealand; Cup. He is still having an easy time of it, and his mishap is very unfortunate for his connections, for he had doao a solid preparation during the winter, and was expected to run well forward in the southern two mile race.
