New Plymouth, October B. The Taranaki Metropolitan Committee has been advised that tho Egmont Racing Club has lodged an appeal against the decision in Barlow's appeal from the decision of the club. NOTES AND COMMENTS. {Bt Glekcox.l Though he returned homo after the Hastings meeting, A. Oliver is to ride at Napier on Wednesday, his principal mount being Bobrikoff. Despite the weight there will-not be. many owners who will saddlo their horses hopefully against tho black champion, especially if ho starts in tho mile and a quarter Taco. If Formulate remains sound, owners of tho other horses weighted for the Rimutaka Handicap at Trentham will no doubt consider tho situation well before they decide to pay up against Mr. G. P. Donnelly's big colt. The son of Gold Reef, for v;hom 1500 guineas was refused when he was a two-year-old, is susceptible _of great improvement, and the raco which he had in the Guineas on Wednesday v/ill improvo him very much. Mr. C. J. Parker, owner of Fort William, arrived in the city from Hastings on Thursday, and visited Troutham to see tho New Zealand Cup horse. Nothing definite was arrived at, but it is understood that the son of Soult will leave Endeavour Lodge, and be handed over to A. White at Waipawa. Tho same trainer will also take charge of Our Queen, and tho other horses belonging to tho Gisborne sportsman. Jockey R. Barlow, who was successful in his appeal to the Taranaki Metropolitan Club, arrived in town last evening on his way to Blenheim, where he is booked to rido soveral horses. Asked if there were any likelihood of his going to tho conference, Barlow stated that he did not know, but, so far, no notice had been served on him regarding the intention of' the Egmont Club to appeal. ' Mr. H. Whitney's horses Ahuapai, Cyra, and Aema were shipped to Blenheim yesterday. No defiuite arrangements have been mallo yet as to a jockey for the trio. ' InveTan and Lcahora aro to leave for Picton by the Arahura, which sails at .15 p.m. to-day. Mr. T. H. Lowry's colt Bellah was brought from Napier to Hastings for the Guineasi' but, on arrival there, ho was found to bo suffering from strangles, and ho was removed homo at once. Undecided and Big Blast were scratched vesterday for their engagements on the 'first day of tho Wellington Racing CTub's meeting. D. Gordon, the apprentice in J. W. Lowe's stables, who had to enter tho hospital while at Wanganui last month, is not making the progress Anticipated. His father arrived from Gisborno on Thursdav night. • Wild West (Soult—The Squaw) has changed hands in Sydney. Tho field for tho Wellington Handicap will bo reduced considerably by October 21. Fort William is unsound, Equitas may bo reserved for other events, Miss Mischief is not ready, and Vice-Adniiral has had plenty of racing in Sydney. Rauparaha is being schooled over fences. Te Puia has no chance on recent form, while Sir Tristram and Formby may be deleted in favour of Miscount. Byron is not ready. Kilosteri, if started at all at the meeting, will probably race in tho Wainui Handicap. Masterpiece or Counterfeit, but one only, will carry Sir Geo. Clifford's colours. Another candidate, Bellah, is laid aside with strangles.
Acceptances for the first day's events at tho Wellington Eacing Clubs meeting close on Friday next. Tho sale of privileges in connection with tho Trentham Eaccs will tako place, on Thursday next at tho rooms of Messrs. Harcourt and Co. Sunstar, tho winner of the last Epsom Derby, will commence stud duty at a feo of 300 guineas. It is said that several moro American owners contemplate racing in England next year. The programme for the next meeting of tho Hutt Valley Trotting Clnh has been arranged. Tho stakes for tho ono day amount to ,£3lO. Acceptances for tho Waverley-Wai-totara Racing Club's anaual meeting close on Friday next. At Eandwick to-day, tho Australian; Jockey Club's spring meeting will bo concluded. The principal event to bo decided is the Eandwick Plate, weight-for-age, two miles. Among tho horses engaged are Comedy King, Trafalgar, Prince Foote, and a number of New Zealandbred horses. The ex-New Zealand jockey, Hewitt, and tho Victorian, B. Carslake, both rodo several winners in Austria in the month of August. Turbine and Monolino have both arrived safely at Trentham. If their form at the Wellington Eacing Club's meeting is satisfactory it is probablo that both will be sent on to Eiccarton. B. Dooley was offored the mount on Turbine at Trentham, but had to refuse it. . At the annual meeting of members of the Hutt Valley T.C. the following officers were elected for the ensuing year :— Patrons, Sir James Carroll and Mr. T. M. Wilford; president, Mr. A. M. Samuel; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Edwards, H. J. Palmer, W. A. Mowbray, G. A. Chapman, E. Barnes, F. M'Parland, H. Baldwin, E. P. Bunny, and Dr. Boss; secretary, Mr. E. W. Short; treasurer, Mr. J.
