ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

DROWNED IN THE HARBOUR. An inquest concerning the death of James Glashan, whoso body was found in the harbour on Wednesday morning, was held by Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday. Evidence of identification was Riven by Robert Melvin, of South Kilbirnie. Th'o deceased was a single man, and had fallowed the trade of a miller. He had been to England for a trip, and returned by the Rotorun, which arrived on September IS. Tho coroner deemed the drowning to have been accidental.

RUN DOWN BY A CAR. Mr. T. S. Lambert, architect, was run down by.a tram-car in Jervois Quay yesterday. He was attended by Dr. .fames who ordered his removal to the Hospital. It was found that he was suffering from a fracture of tho base of the skull. DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Mrs. .Sing, wife of Kem Sing, a local Chinese fruiterer, died at tho Wellington Hospital at 1 p.m. yesterday. Deceased was placed under an anaesthetic by Dr. 11. J. M'Lorin nnd Dr. Woodhouse, for tho purposo of an examination, but "death supervened. Tho deceased was a halfcaste Chinese, born in New Zealand. .An inquest will be held at the hospital at :11 o'clock this morning. ; DEATH. UNDER OPERATION. , (By Toleeraph.-Frpss Association.) . Duncdin, October G. At an inquest' at Mosgiel regarding the death of Elizabeth Kewan Williamson, aged 3* years, who died at the house of Dr. Allan while being operated on for post-nasal growths, the Coroner expressed regret that another qualified practitioner was not present at the operation. There certain 'ainou.ht-.of,'risk', and-' •'the presence'of two medical ni'en in such coses would satisfy public opinion. In recording' that the verdict was due to heart failure, consequent-on the .administration of an anaesthetic, 1 ho .gave an individual expression of regret that another medical man had not been .present at the operation. SERIOUSLY INJURED. Gisborne, October 6. A man named Charles Phillips, while working on the erection of a new stable to-day, was attempting to move a large sliding-door when it came off tho rollers and fell on him. Fonr men were required to lift the door off Phillips, who was conveyed to. hospital in-..great agony. On examination the doctor said there was .every evidence of a serious fracture of tho spine, and tho man was in a very critical condition.

CHILD FALLS OVER A CLIFF. Auckland, October G. A three-year-old Iwy named Dudley Cooper fell over a did overlooking the harbour, at tho foot of New Street, Ponsonby, this afternoon. He received injuries from which he died this evenin". Th° cliff is over 40 feet high. STRYCHNINE AND SUICIDE. Ashburton, October G. At an inquest held this morning touching tho death of Richard Milncr Buchanan, tho Coroner returned a verdict that deceased died from strychnine poisoning, self-administered. There beiii" no evidence to show the state of his mind at the time. FOUND IN PELORUS RIVER. „, , , ~r Blenheim, October G. ■ Tho body of. Mrs. ;Eyes, who has been missing for threo weeks from Rai Falls, was found in the Pelorus River, near Blackball, yesterday. The body was very much decomposed.
