VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN MR. MOSS* AFP QUOTATIONS ABOUT HUMBUG. (By Tclcgraph.-Prcss Association.) Auckland, October G. Mr. E. G. B. Moss, tho Opposition candidate for Paniell, opened his campaign to-night. Referring to the retirement of Mr. Lawry he said that if anyone deserved a call io tho Upper House Mr. Lnwry did. Mr. Moss taxed Sir John Findlay with insincerity in dedaring that wheal ho camo to Auckland ho was not awaro that Mr. Lawry was going to retire. Sii John Findlay, lie said, was well known in tlio south as the author of a book ou humbug, aud he (Mr. Moss) quoted tho following passages from -pngo s:— "Spoutor, tho Politician, who foolß the. crowd with glorious and gigantic, lies." Also the following sentence from pag» 39:— "How luck will mako a millionairo and silence a sage; but ho who aspires to a leader of men must porforco do a humbug." (Laughter.) Mr. Moss said no was an Oppositionist because ho did not believe in the Government, and because Mr. Masa?y was an honest man. Tho candidate received an excellent hearing, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidonce. Mr. Moss, in ny ply, promised "to shako things up. So. far there arc four candidates do finitely out for Parnell—Sir John Findlay (Government), Mr. E. G. B. Moss (Opposition), Mr. J. S. Dickson (Liberal), aud Mr. M. J. Mack (Labour). Mr. Mack has already commenced hie campaign j Sir John Findlay delivers a public address on Monday night; and Mr. Dickson will ninko. his first speech about tho end of next week.
