Sir,—l should likd to call your attentioi and the attention of tho public to a para graph in tho "Auckland Weekly" otSep toniber 28, in which it is slated that th Hon. T. Mackenzio has given sonic in teresting information regarding handlini Aew Zealand meat in London. Anyon< reading tho articlo would naturally im agine that the Hon. T. Mackenzio hai been the primo mover in the improve ments to bo effected at tho London Docks which is quite contrary, to fact. As fa: as I know—l speak, however, under cor rection—tho first mover was Mr. Lysnar who, over a year ago, reported to tin leading gentlemen connected with tin § reduction and export of our farm pro uee, among whom Mr. J. G. Wilsor holds foremost place, on tho insufficien acctonodation provided for our produce is London. His report ran: "It was pathc tic to see acres of water lying idlo with out a single ship because R was too shal low for vessels of modern tonnage." Ii lire Dominion last autumn you publishet some, correspondence that took placo be tween Mr. Wilson and tho Minister foi Agriculture, in which Mr. Wilson urge( the Minister to cable to Sir J. G. Ward whilo m England, to bring tho mattei prominently before the Port authority riio Hon. T. Mackenzie, however foi reasons best known to himself, mado n< move in' the matter, and after somo de lay Mr. Wilson cabled himself and ob tainc-'d a favourable reply (published ir J.BE Dominion). All these facts Mr. Wilson reported in his presidential addressc both at tho Wellington F.U. Provincia Conference, and also at tho Dominior Conference. At the htter, tho hon Minister poo-poohod Mr. Wilson's puny effort., compared with tho gigantic efforts hi; Department wero to make—somo day! , I think it rather hard, after ail the thought, trouble, and expense, that th< president of the Farmers' Union has been at to improve tho position of the producers of this country, in this and many other similar matters, the credit should bo given to thoso who only threw cold water on them until success was within sight, and then rush to the front and claim all tho credit—l am, etc., E. JOHNSON SMITH, ■ Ngama-fcapouri.
