• RUOBY FOOTBALL. NEW ZEALAND UNION AFFAIRS. INTER-ISLAND MATCH. A meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr. N. 'Galbraith presiding. There were also present :~rMessrs. J. A. 11. Laughton, M. J. Crcmbie, R. G. Wallburton, H. Kelly, and J. D. Avery, secretary. A letter was received from the- Daylight Saving Committee asking that Hie supi>ort of ihe union be given to tho proposal. It was also oskwi. '.bat members ?h ould attend the meeting, which is to be held iu the Town Hall on Monday evening. Members spoke iu support of the proposal, and the chairman remarked that he thought that, if tho Bill were carried, it would have an excellent effect, "and would help the Defence authorities in military traiuing operations." On. the motion of Mr. Crombie it was decided that the union support the proposal, and that an effort bo made to have as many footballers and supporters of tho game in attendance as possible. Regarding the North v. South Island match, which is to take p].;co to-morrow, tho sfcrotnry reported that there had been no trouble in getting the South Island representatives together, but there had been a groat amount of difficulty iu connection with the North Island representatives. The original North Island team had. had to be changed considerably owing to illness among some of the selected men, and, in other oases, because players had been unablo to obtain the necessary leave. However, arrangements were now being, pushed on as quickly as possible, and it was expected to have them complete by to-day. It, was mentioned that members of tho Cabinet and City Council have accepted invitations to attend the match. Arrangements for entertaining tho teams were left in the hands of the secretary, and on.Saturday evening both teams will be entertained at dinner. Following are the members of the South Island team:—Scott (Otago), Guthrie (Canterbury). Lynch (South Canterbury), Burns (Canterbury), Irving (West Coast), Gray (Canterburv), Green (Buller), Hasell (Canterburv), Biggar (Southland), M'Donald (Marlborough), Forbes (Marlborough), Patterson (Otago), Dalton (South Canterbury), Best (Nelson), Murray (Canterburv): emergencies: Pyle (Canterbury), Shulian (Otago). In the North Island team the latest change is that Kinvig (Wellington) replaces O'Leary at full-back,' Brown (Taranaki) replaces Cameron at fiveeighths, and l'yland (Poverty Bay) replaces M'Gregor at wing-tliTee-quarter. THE CITY RESERVES. The Reserves Committee of the City Council reported to the council last night that they had appointed a subcommittee to go into the matter of tho suggested charge for the use of the city reserves during the winter months by adult players. Cockburn, goalkecner for the Hospital Association football team, was presented with tho gold medal presented to tho bust goalkeeper in teams competiug for the first division championship. Dr. Jeffries, in making tho presentation', spoke of Cbckburn's display (hiring tho season, Ms record being 21 goals scored against him in 17 matches. In seven of tliesa matches he was "undefeated." In responding, the recipient made complimentary reference to the men in front of him, without whose co-operation, he said, ho would not have been the proud possessor of tho trophy. THE NEAVGROUND. The first meeting of the provisional directors ■of • the Association Football Grounds Company, Limited, will be held this evening, when business in connection with the .formation of tho company and tho commencement of work on the ground will be dealt with.

LOCAL MANAGEMENT. At a committee meeting of the Wellington Cricket' Association on Tuesday night, it was decided that subject to permission being obtained from the City Council that cricket practice will commence at tho Basin- Reserve on Saturday next. Mr. C. Hickey gave notice of motion to alter rule -1-1, disallowing church clubs and similar institutions from entering teams above third-class. A new clause provides that tho management coonniittco' shall bo supplied with a list of members of such institutions, and shall have power to prevent players of a higher standard than third-class playing with such clubs. Bell) gave notico to move at the adjourned general meeting next Monday week the following new. nilc:-^ Whenever the funds of the association shall bo found to be insufficient to meet the liabilities a levy upon every playing member of every club of a sum not exceeding sixpence per week for a consecutive period of not more than six months may bo declared and made by a general meeting. Such levy shall take effect according to the. terms of the resolution of the general meeting. Each club shall be responsible for the collection of the levy from its members and for payment thereof to the treasurer of the association. No number o£ any club who shall be in arrear in respect of any weekly levy for more Hum seven days .shall play in any match or be entitled to nn'v privilege of membership of his club until he shall have paid such arrears in full. Each club shall, once in each month during the poiiod of levy, pay over to tho treasurer of the association tho amount of the levy for its members, and supply a list of such ' of its members lis shall be in arrear. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club continued tho competition for tho president's trophy on Wednesday afternoon, fifteen competitors taking part The day was an ideal one for' shooting... The club is now using the latest Bisley figure target at 500 and GOO yards, with the 18-inch bull's-eyo (which is invisible to the firar). Tho club will continue next Saturday and Wednesday with its trophv shooting. Tho twentieth annual report of tho council-of tho-Northern Bowling Association congratulates members on tho continued success and progress of the association. Tho season opened with a membership of 57 clubs. ■ During the year our numbers have been augmented by the affiliation of Hataitai; Hamilton, Wood-1 ville, Foxton, and Otaki. This brings the roll up to 02 clubs, with a membership of close on 1500, which makes our association one of the strongest of its kind in Australasia. For the incoming season applications for affiliation have already been received from the Khandallah, Ta~ kaka, and Gonville Clubs. During the season a very special effort has been put forth to try'and bring under ono banner the whole of the clubs in the North Island. The sub-committee appointed to deal with the matter is very hopeful that good results will eventuate. The association suffered a loss through the resignation of Mr. G. H. Dixon (secretary and treasurer) consequent, on his removal to Auckland. Tho benefit of Mr. Dixon's services in Auckland, however, before and after the tournament, proved of considerable value to the. association. The death of Captain 15. A. Edwin, R.N., a past president of tho association, and a delegate on tho councils for tho. Remue'ra Club, for a considerable number of years. removed a very valuable member. The council desires' to place on record its thanks for the services rendered by the tournament, match, and entertainment committees in Auckland, and the respective umpires who officiated during the tournament, the various' Auckland clubs for the use of their greens, and the directors of the Wellington Bowling Club for the use of a room for council meetings.
