MASTERTON NOTES.

(From Our Special CorresxxradcntJ A rather important point affecting ths representation of local authorities on Ho* pital and Charitablo Aid Boards came up at Hie mooting erf the Wairarapa Hoard this week. It appears that under existing arrangements Um Foathcrslwu County Council is joirj?d with the Feathorstou aiuTMartinbcirough Town Beards for tho election of (Jirco members of tho Charitable Aid Board. Tho valuation of tho county is about ten times as groat as that of tho Town Boards combined, and Ua conii'ibution to charity proportionately greater. In tho elections, however, tho County Council ratepayers alono oan voto, whilst _in tho Town Board districts tho municipal franchise exists. It is thus possible for the Town Boards to return tho whole three roproscniraitivcs to tho Charitablo Aid Board, having by far the greater voting power. At the meeting' of tho Charitablo Aid Board to-day it was doeiil'si to make representations to the Bepartnionit on the subjoct, and to ask that tho_ County Council bo given two representatives and t!ho combined Town Boards one.
