A conference was held at the Merchant Sen-ieo Guild offices between representative owners of small vessels all'cctod by tho recent award of the Arbitration Court in the case of urates and members of the guild. The owners submitted certain proposals and later they wero informed that the guild declined to accept the proposals submitted. Tho owners are considering what further stops shall bo taken. Tho two mates of tho steamer Storm, which arrived at Lytleltoa early this morning, having given twenty-four'hours' notice, of the termination of their agreement, wero paid-oil' to-day. Ell'orls wero being made this afternoon to obtain tho services of two other mates, in order that the vessel might sail for Duncdin. It is understood that, ou the arrival of tho steamer Holmdalo from Greymouth tomorrow, tho mates will be paid off, their twenty-four hours' notice having expired. Nelson, October ,1. By to-morrow tho whole of tho Anchor Company's fleet will be laid up here, pending a settlement of tho coastal officers' dispute.
