An attempt has been begun to put an end to all initiative and referendum legislation by an action in the Supreme Court, attacking a State taxation law enacted under the initiative clause of the Stato Constitution, which, it is alleged, is a violation of tho Federal Constitution.

Tho Initiai'ivo and Referendum in America constitute a political force or medium opposed in action to tho Legislature as tho delegated authorily of tho people, and tho various Labour and people's parties have turned to them as a means of holding in their hands a largo measure of political power.
