INCREASE OF PAY ASKED FOR. J In tho dispute between tho Australasian Federated Seamen's Union and fho New Zealand, Shipowners, the demands of the union have been filed. Tho rates of pay asked for are:—Boat- i swain on passenger steamers, .£lO a montlii, aud on other steamers, £9 a month; quartermasters, lamp trimmers, or able stamen, £&; lamp trimmers and able seamen combined, £d; ordinary seamen M (first-class) and £5 (second-class); donkeymen, £U (6-hour watch) and .£ll (1-hour watch); firemen, or greasers, or storekeepers and greasers, .£l3 (6-hour watch) and .£lO (1-hour watch); trimmers, ,£ll (6-hour watch) and £& (1-hour watch); boy, £3 (first-class) and £i 10s. (secondclass).

Special provisions are included for overtime between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., for Sunday and holiday work. No Overtime is demanded for any work necessary for the safety of the ship at any time. "Members of tie crew may have 2} hours off 'for every ono hour worked overtime in lieu of cash for such overtime. Holidays asked for are specified. Notice has been lodged with the Registrar of tho intention of tho union to cancel its registration under the Arbitration Act. A baQlot is being taken, and should a majority decide against cancellation, the notice mil bo withdrawn.
