REAR-ADMIRAL SCHLET. lis Teleffranh—Press Association—OopjTieht New York, Octobor 2. Roar-Admiral Schley, of tho United States Navy, and prominent during tho Spanish-American War, dropped dead at a club at Now York. Admiral Schloy sank Admiral Cert-era's' fleet in Santiago Harbour in July, 1898. Ho was born in Maryland, in 1839, and torv«l through tho Civil War, and in tho Pacific, China, Japan, Korea, on the West Coast; of Africa, and in South America. In 1881 ho commanded tho expedition to the Arctic that rescued Lieutenant Greeley. AN AUSTRALIAN ACTOR. Sydney, October 3. Mr. Stirling Whyte, an actor, who frequently toured New Zealand, is dead. CAPTAIN PEAESON. Sydney, October 3. The death is announced of Captain Pearson, well known in the New Zealand timber trade.
