STRAIGHT FOOTBALL WANTED.
ARCHDEACON HABI'EE'S VIEWS. Archdeacon C C. Harper, in his speech at the Yorkshire dinner last nieht, had something severe to say about sport, especially football in this country. Hβ spoke as an ex-referee, and said that after con years eipericnco of football in New Zealand he doubted whether ono could ever bo sure of seeing straiaht football hero, except in the school matches. There one did see straight football, as in the Christchurqh-Wanjranui match. Ho had only had time to see one match this year, and that was the Wellineton-A.uck-iaml match. He sincerely hoped it was not a fair sample of football in New Zealand to-day.
