Mr. L. Tootill, a water-diviner, of Harwood", near Bolton, has been making a series of tests in tho Furncss area with a view to finding iron ore in the same way as ho finds water. He us»d a steel rod in placc of the usual hazel twig, and stated tliat he found ores in various parts of the district near to Barrow. In one placo he found beds varying in thickness from 10ft. to T.'ift. wide. He was tested over ground where ore was known to exist nt Newton-iu-Furness, and his findings agreed with the known facts, his steel rod being violently agitated wherever tho ore lay under surface. There is a scarcity of ore in l'urness. Poor Mary Ann caught such a cold, They said it was the "tin.," She hook ft lot of drugs and things, But worse and worse she grew.
