THE BIJOU.

This evening the Bijou Pioture Theatre (situated in Injiestre Street a few yards westward of Cuba Street) will bo opened for tho -first time. The syndicate . controlling this new picture-houso has gono to considerable trouble and expense in arranging for the comfort of patrons. The seating arrangements are admirable. There is a'raised floor which allows of everyone' seeing tho .ecroeai with an uninterrupted view. Thero. are no pillars to obstnict the view.' In- tho- circlo the seats aro so arranged that cach row is nine inches higher than the one in front, thus allowing of a clean line of sight.. Seating accommodation is provided for 500. Tho hall is well provided with exits, there being six in all, and the ventilation has been specially attended to. The seats in the circle and stales are of the tip-up pattern, upholstered, and the seats at the back are comfortably-backed forms. The building is claimed to be positively fireproof, and where not cemented the ceilings and walls have been asbestos lined. A wire net-work in front of tho gallerv, in place of the solid bulwark usually provided, adds to tho appearance of the circle. Convenient tickot offices liavo been built, and the projecting machine is the latest pattern noiseless Ernemann. A h.p. motor has been fitted up on a. concrete bed to charge tho dynamo, and to provide for any difficulty through a breakdown,- a second supply of current has been arranged for. It is the intention of tho syndicate at present to give entertainments in the evening, with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and "continuous": shows on holidays, changing the programme twice weekly. For the first programmo tho films total a length of over 10,000 feet of hitherto unshown pictures. The alterations have been carried out by Sanders Brothers, and tho painting and decorating by Standidgo.
