Jack Johnson, the pugilist, announces that after finishing his present contracts in England ho will permanently retire as heavy-weight champion of tho world. His decision was not connected with the proposed contest with Wells. He had decided, oven'had tho contest oomo off, to retire. Five defendants who wore summoned at the Bow Street Tolico Court in connection with tho proposed prizo fight between Johnson and Wells, gave an undertaking not to box in tho British Isles. The summonses wero therefore withdrawn. JOHNSON SAILING FOR AUSTRALIA. Sydney, September 29. Mr. M'lntosh, tho well-known sportsman, has received a cablegram stating that the intended fight between Johnson and Wolls has been abandoned.
