The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Cleary) will preach the dedication sermon at tho opening of the new Basilica at Timaru to-morrow. From 'l'imaru ho will procced to Gisborno to begin the visitation of that portion of his diocfs®. Ho will he absoat from Auckland for about three weeks. Mr. W. R. Jourdain, of tho head office of the Department of Lands, was yesterday admitted as a solicitor of tho Supremo Court by his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman, on tho motion of Mr. J. W. Macdonald, solicitor to the Public Trust Oilice. Mr. Jourdain, besides filling other Departmental positions, has been secretary to the Hawke's Bay Land Board, secretary to tho Royal Commission on the Timber Industry in 1909, and secretary to tho Scenery Preservation Board. Mr. J. M. Saunders, who has occupied the position of teller at the Union Bank in Wftimatu, for about , two years, litis been promoted to ft position in tho Auckland branch of the bank. Mr. H. N. Holmes, late secretary of tho Y.M.C.A., left for Sydney by tho Warrimoo yesterday. Pi idem an Wm. Advicc has been received in Wellington of tho death in London of Sirs. J. U. Lowo, widow of Mr. John Henry Lowe, late Chief' Engineer of tho New Zealand railways, at tho ago of G7. Mr. A. li. Hislop, tho retiring secreta.ry of the Australasian lusUtuto of Marino Engineers, is to bo honoured with a presentation at tho institute this evening.
