MONTHLY COW-TESTING.
It is generally recognised that monthly sampling affords a fairly reliable reorcu of a Bit's milk yield for the year. , An experiment conducted at tlio Agricultural College'at'Newport, Ting-land, gives a good idea, of the value of daily records, as against weakly, fortnightly, .ikl monthly. Tho test was conducted with 10 typical eov.-s representative of light and heavy milkers, varying in age and with different «i(«ng periods. The'nverage figures showthat the-yield obtained bv-a daily record was 699 gallons, tho weekly rcconl showed 700 gallon®, the fortnightly record 711 gallons, an<l the monthly rccord 700 gallons. Examination of the figures, however, indicates that at times a considerable variation may take place.. In the case of ono oow, for instance, monthly records showed a- vn.riaf.ion of no less than 'ill gallons in tho year. Another cow, whoso daily record was 070 gallons, was only G3t by ■weekly, and 6t>7 by fortnight]?, while monthly records dropped her total to 590 .gallons.
